The Blessed Father of Death / by Joseph Urban

The War Between the States is finished. In the wake of the bloodiest military conflict in American history, Malcolm Jefferson, a former Confederate officer, created an international shipping fleet that was suddenly catapulted into the most successful merchant house in the world when luck, cunning, and ruthlessness gave him access to radical new technology discovered after an armada of alien ships attacked our world in a holy war of conquest.

It is 1877, and steam-powered vessels now patrol the cosmos, lunar colonies are established, new species are discovered, and alliances are formed.

Foreign mystics, psychic warriors, and Martian shock troops now do battle with Union soldiers, interstellar colonials, and alien mercenaries.

Amidst this chaos, a Martian princess following a prophecy that declares she is the key to interplanetary peace is brought to Jefferson, whose own destiny gives him a blessing that will bring about that salvation — or interstellar destruction.

The Blessed Father of Death is a self-published science fiction tale by Joseph J. Urban, III.

ReGenesis: an Alternative Future / by Benjamin Lightfoot

NASA has discovered what it believes to be an Earth-like planet hundreds of light years from our solar system. The agency has also developed a starship capable of light-speed and able to explore other star-systems in our galaxy. NASA has been given approval to launch a mission to the planet Nyvar. Six astronauts, three men, and three women, have been selected to journey to the newly discovered planet. The astronauts, if their one-way mission is successful, will either become the first humans to visit Nyvar or our envoys to an existing civilization on that planet.

The mission is launched and the astronauts begin their journey at light-speed in the most advanced spacecraft ever constructed. The Revelation begins a trek that will take it beyond our solar system, past the stars that make up the constellation Orion, trillions of miles in the direction of the Crab Nebula. With the crew in hibernation, a malfunction in the ship’s master computer causes the Revelation to follow an incorrect course. The ship forges through deep space, not toward the intended planet Nyvar, but on an elliptical path returning it back to Earth – Earth in the thirty-fourth century.

The Revelation astronauts find themselves on a world vastly different from the one they left only a year ago in their lifetimes, but thirteen centuries earlier in Earth time. The new Earth boasts sweeping sociological transformations such as the abolition of war, the near eradication of crime and the virtual elimination of poverty.

In ReGenesis – An Alternative Future, author Benjamin Lightfoot weaves an exciting tale of what this new Earth is like and how six orphans from the twenty-first century adapt to a radically different world – which in spite of many utopian aspects, is not all that it seems to be. The powerful leaders of thirty-fourth century Earth are not sure they can accept the 21st Century Six into their society. The astronauts are not all convinced they wish to remain on this future Earth.

Come aboard the Revelation and experience the future Earth the author has created. Learn the fates of the six astronauts from twenty-first century Earth.

47 / by Frank J. Viscomi

Chris reached the hotel and casually walked through the lobby to the elevator. He noticed that there was a new man behind the desk now. Chris just nodded to him as he pressed the button to go up. The humming vibrations and soft lights of the elevator had a numbing effect. The elevator doors opened. Chris walked out and turned to walk down the hallway to his room.

As he unlocked his door, he thought that the evening in the city was quite different than what he had expected, in fact pleasurable. Then he thought again of the Jamaican and the feeling he had as he walked back to the hotel. While getting ready for bed, Chris thought that perhaps the strange feelings during the evening where just a result of being tired, he finished brushing his teeth, set the alarm, and jumped under the covers. Almost the instance his head hit the pillow, Chris was asleep.

The soft glow of the city lights shone through the window, highlighting the room’s interior, casting shadows over the walls. The mood was reminiscent of a 1940’s style, black and white Mickey Spillane movie. Chris’ darkened dream world was slowly becoming illuminated by glowing white light, diffused throughout the room, and as its intensity grew, he became keenly aware of his surroundings.

Sitting in a chair in the middle of a circular room, Chris scanned the rows of Corinthian columns forming the perimeter of the circle. Through the space between two of the columns appeared an angel, at least that’s how Chris perceived the being. As the being approached, Chris saw that it was a woman dressed in a long flowing white robe, covering her completely. He could see her face, which was pale, but not in a sickly manner, her long platinum hair floated in the air as though a constant breeze was blowing over her. The angelic figure seemed to float several inches above the floor as she moved in closer to Chris.

Now standing directly in front of him, the woman raised her arm and reached out with her hand. Taking her hand, Chris stood up from the chair and ‘floated’ across the floor with the woman. The columnar room dissolved around them and was slowly replaced with a long grey corridor that materialized in front of them. The woman was now behind Chris. She placed her right hand onto his right shoulder, and with her outstretched left arm, pointed towards an amber colored light at the end of the corridor.

With no spoken words, Chris could ‘hear’ the woman’s thoughts in his mind, “There!”. But Chris did not understand. He saw an amber light glowing with a pulsating rhythm at the end of the corridor. In his mind he could hear the woman say, “You”. Then in a moment, the glowing amber light began to fade. The corridor dissolved as the columns in the circular room had. The intensity of the lighted room began to dissipate and Chris’ darkened dream world was once again slowly returning him to a peaceful state of rest…”

Based on an actual Out of Body Experience of author Frank J. Viscomi, 47 is a self-published story of Chris, a recent college graduate, who soon realizes that life in the real world doesn’t match up to all his expectations. As things begin to go down hill, Chris turns to meditation hoping to find peace and the strength to accept what the world had dealt him. What he finds instead is a world of unearthly forces that begin to take over his very being. Dreams no longer represent the peaceful solitude so eagerly awaiting our nightly rest, but become the visions of what the future holds.

During his dream state, Chris is exposed to interlocking images and events which form an elaborate puzzle relating the number ‘47’ and the real world. Chris’ encounters with an unknown presence soon evolve into a predestined fate that is magically orchestrated into a journey to uncover the meaning behind ‘47’ and a mysterious symbol he sees while in the dream state. We have all experienced that state of consciousness that lies between the dream world and the waking world. It is at this level that we find it difficult to tell the difference. Perhaps as we journey through these levels of consciousness and solve their riddle, our minds open the doors to yet another level.

Transdimensional Blues is a self-published science fiction book written by Raymond M. Coulombe.

Here’s an excerpt…

Shimmering waves rose in my vision, like heat off a California blacktop. It wasnt heat that caused the waver. The air was not wavering: reality was. Well, not reality, just my place in it. It happened again.

The street morphed. Reality twisted before my eyes. First a flower shop, then a bookstore, a pet store, office space, warehouses? Now back to storefronts but with a difference. The matrix took me far afield. In front of me was Dan and Daves All Night Trauma Stand and Cut Rate Surgery. I hoped this reality was not one of the long-lasting ones.

Im afraid it was. The Trauma Stand did not waver, but I did: nausea, headache. The ground reached up and grabbed me, pulling me face first into the pavement: not a good beginning. Darkness.

Consciousness returned. My mouth felt stuffed with sandpaper, and my was face stiff with dried blood. The cold hard floor sucked the heat from my body. Welcome to a new dimension. Normally transition didnt hit so hard. I would not still be around if it did. The first time I changed realities, the disorientation nearly killed me, but I learned how to survive. The physical shock is bad, but the changes in society are equally disorientating. Every society has its rules, both conscious and unconscious, and woe to one who breaks them. Imagine being in a car crash and waking up in a different country. Thats how it felt.
